The Richland Community College Transfer Academy (RTA) academy offers high school students the opportunity to spend half of their day on Richland’s campus taking college courses for dual credit. Dual Credit means these classes count towards high school graduation requirements as well as towards a college degree. Students in the Academy can earn up to 10 college credit hours per semester. Academy students pay a minimal fee to the high school for this opportunity and also must purchase their own textbooks.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE RICHLAND TRANSFER ACADEMY:

Junior or Senior standing

Minimum GPA of 3.2

Minimum of 19 in English and 19 in Reading on the ACT test OR an SAT score of 480 in English

Math 116 (College Algebra) whether taken at CGHS or at RCC requires an ACT score of 22 in Math OR an SAT score of 560 in Math OR Pass the English, Reading and Math placement tests through Richland Community College

Because the goal of the Academy is to offer challenging college credit courses to our most talented and most motivated students, sophomores who have below a 3.5 GPA may be denied admittance their junior year. Juniors who have below a 3.0 GPA will not be admitted to the Academy. Likewise, students who have not taken enough upper-level college prep courses may also be denied.
Students who fail a class will be expected to reimburse the district for the cost of the course. After a course failure, students can be denied readmission to RTA.
Underclassmen interested in the Academy should plan first and second year courses carefully with the school counselor to ensure a smooth transition to the academy. With administrative approval, students can enter the Academy either their junior or senior year, provided they have met the entrance requirements.
